I am Ethan Hays, and you’re probably here because I wrote something nerdy about science and / or technology somewhere online.

A bit about me —

1. This is me – hi!

2. I’ve been working in technology for 20+ years, building and marketing digital products.

    • I am the co-founder and General Manager of PathIQ, a performance marketing company. PathIQ is part of Plus Company, a global marketing agency holding company. As SVP I lead the performance marketing division within Plus Company, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions.

    • Prior to that, I spent 2 years running performance marketing at ArborCrowd, which is a SaaS platform for real estate investing.  I built the marketing technology stack and the performance marketing function, helping them raise tens of millions of dollars from accredited investors for their property investments.

    • Prior to that, I spent 5 years as Head of Performance Marketing at gyro, an integrated marketing agency.  gyro was named the 2016 AdAge B2B Agency of the Year and the Business Marketing Association’s Agency of the Year for 3 years in a row, from 2014 through 2016.

    • I spent the first 12 years of my career in Silicon Valley. I worked with young technology startups to help them hit aggressive growth targets.

3. Human performance is an area that’s fascinated me since I was a kid. When I was about 10, I realized that my human body is the best birthday present I’ll ever get. I’m fascinated by how the body works, and how we can make it work better, so I studied natural science in college.

    • I got my bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine from Pepperdine University, where I was a Board of Regent’s Scholar.

    • I received a Seaver College Research Fellowship to study the efficacy of physical performance measurements to predict future declines in activities of daily living in geriatric populations.

    •  The faculty voted me the “Outstanding Sports Medicine Student” for my graduating class by the faculty.

4. I consult with businesses who have online properties, and want to improve their return on investment.

    • I help companies align the specific business outcomes that their web marketing channel needs to deliver, with the needs of their audience(s), and their overall brand strategy.

    • I’ve helped companies build entirely new products to address new markets, grow millions of monthly visitors through high-margin SEO traffic, gain customer loyalty via social media and email, and use paid search for testing and driving specific conversion outcomes.

    • I’m fascinated by the science of persuasion, including the study of learning behavior and cognitive biases.

5. I love grilling meat. My favorite for making a crowd of people very happy is this marinade:

    • 1 tri-tip
    • 1/2 cup soy sauce
    • 1/2 cup orange juice
    • 1/4 cup olive oil
    • 4 cloves crushed garlic
    • handful chopped fresh oregano
